At our October Third Wednesday BYO lunch, join guest speaker John Berry as he takes us through his latest adventure, sharing anecdotes and advice on cycling and on aging.

From John:

Last Summer I planned to make my third 4000-mile ride around Eastern Europe, but other commitments cut the time available from 2½ months down to about 5 weeks, making it impossible to do the whole thing by bicycle. I had planned to ride about 60 miles each day but was left needing to ride 130 miles a day: a physical impossibility! I ended up doing the “cities” part of the tour by train with bicycle assist, and the “history and scenery” parts by bicycle with train assist.

This was also the journey during which I finally learned that I really am an Old Man: someone whom young people instinctively offer to help, who finds himself physically unable to do certain things, and who is literally left out in the cold by the advance of technologies he does not quite understand.-

In this talk I will tell of some of the highs and lows, of the wonders good and bad, and of the pitfalls and pleasures of what might be called “Senior Adventure Travel.”
